i didn't know what to do when my hard drive crashed. all of my important files were lost. it was a disaster. the time machine didn't even work. the recover center quoted me 500$ and this drove me crazy. i googled for recovery tools and tried some but they all worked badly. and finally, my friend recommended disk drill http://appleinsider.com/articles/16/12/28/disk-drill-3-brings-file-recovery-tools-to-mac-hard-drives software to me and it saved me. and if it helps you avoid deleting something or helps you get some things back, it's worth the cost of the pro version. i think to you it will help

The same thing happened to me and it's because AVG has a GIGANTIC FLAW! It You assume that when you run the 'find duplicates' scan it will only show the duplicate files, but no, it shows you the original and the duplicate files in the same window. If you, like any sane person, you assume that all the files it found ARE DUPLICATES you, most of the people here who got screwed, will select ALL of them to be deleted because you think that you're only deleting the duplicate files and not the originals. And to top it all there is no option to undo this clusterf*uk. I most definitely will not be extending my trial subscription. This is ignorant and arrogance software engineer BS personified.

While using AVG Cleaner on my mac, I accidentally selected my downloads folder to be scanned, which led to it's contents being deleted. Is there any way to restore those deleted files? (I didn't back up my mac, so I can't restore from a backup)
