Retaining benefits of home network and location masking with Secure VPN

Hi Antony,
Referring to the term, "private home network", are you trying to access the files through shared  local network? If that is the case, I'm afraid to inform you, we wouldn't be able to access the files when VPN is turned on.
VPN connection creates a virtual encrypted space that will not allow network activity across such connections. This is the desired behavior of every VPN service to protect the privacy.

I have installed Secure VPN on the computers on my home network, primarily to prevent my kids locations being traced however:
1) the software's default setting for a private home network is to turn Secure VPN off - which defeats the purpose
2) if I turn it on, it prevents the machines from seeing each other and sharing files.  Is there a way around this
Is there a way to ensure that the locations of all of the machines is protected and also retain the sharing advantages of the home network?

Many thanks
Antony
