Hello Clive,
We are aware about this issue (a few seconds ago), our developers are working on a fix. The issue will get resolved soon. The issue is just with AVG User Interface, your computer is protected with AVG from all types of malware/ransomware.

Free anti virus shows for scan and update as a few seconds ago, Did the repair and a complete clean and reinstall but just the same, I know the problem is being looked at, but does it mean I am not getting updates and that my PC is under threat from any new viruses until the problem is sorted out?
