Scan freezes at 28% every time

Problem is not recurring now. Perhaps latest update fixed it. Ran a 100% scan today.  Appreciate the help!

OK here is the screen shot. The program did this again today so easy to recreate.

any advice how to unfreeze it will be appreciated.

At least a week now every scan stops at 28%. Updates are not running, they are waiting for scan to finish and it never does. Ran performance check and it supposedly fixed a pile of registry errors, but the scan still stops at the same place after that so-called fix.  Pause and stop buttons do nothing. I ran "repair" installation and it claimed it was fine. This is AVG 2015 Free. Never had a problem with 2014 version. Have not had a threat in a very long time, so this is not threat related. Tried to attach a screen shot but it refuses to paste - not that savvy, sorry.
