Scanning a smaller number of files

Hi,
Update to my original question below. I have discovered that on start-up of my computer AVG loses from “Scheduled scans” the section “Parts of your PC to scan” which precedes the “Installers and archives” section. If I run “Repair” and tick “Done” this section re-appears but if I run “Repair” and am advised to re-start my computer for maximum protection the missing section does not re-appear. If I run a scheduled scan with the “Parts of your PC to scan” section present it does scan 1.1 Tb but is taking about 45 minutes to 1 hour longer than the 3 hours it used to take.
I hope that this extra detail might be useful,
Wayne

Original question:
Hi,
Running a deep scan used to take about 3 hours and check about 1.1 Tb. Recent deeps scans have taken just over 1 hour and scanned  621.2 GB which concerned me since I had not changed my settings for the scan nor removed a large number of files from the hard drive so I ran AVG Clear and re-installed AVG anti-virus free. Having re-installed AVG anti-virus free I ran my usual deep scan which did not take 3 hours nor scan 1.1Tb but the far shorter run time and number of files scanned that initially raised my concern. Any thoughts on what might be going on?
Hoping someone can help,
Wayne
