Scanning computer... 99% (Sensitive documents) Never finishes

Adding my voice to this thread.  I have the same issue with the never-ending 99% scan for sensitive documents. I even let it run overnight, and it never completes. With the older version, this function finished within minutes. I never had any problems until the most recent update. I will follow the various directions in this thread and, if unsuccessful in resolving, will contact support directly.

Here are the articles which has the steps to uninstall & reinstall AVG Internet Security. We've sent the activation code to you via email, as it isn't recommended to share product/account details over this public post.
Note : You can skip running Remover tool while uninstalling.

Let's repair your AVG Internet Security and check with scan status. To repair AVG programs go to Control Panel.
- On the Start menu enter Control Panel in the search box and select Control Panel from the results.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features, and then select AVG Internet Security
- Select  'Uninstall' and you will be getting an option to repair.

Please keep us updated on the progress.

I upgraded to a paid version of AVG Internet Security yesterday, resuming a subscription I had allowed to lapse.  I installed the latest version and kicked off a scan.
The scan progressed through Browser add-ons and Viruses & other malware, to Sensitive documents.  The progress indicator indicates "Scanning computer.. 99%"
It stayed there for several hours.  I grew impatient and hit "STOP SCAN". It grayed out and would not stop. The upper right "x" would not stop it.  Task Manager could not kill it. I had to forcefully stop my computer and restart it.
Gave it another try last night and did not disturb it for about 14 hours.
It's still "Scanning for vulnerable sensitive documents...; Other sensitive documents".
Before I reboot the computer I thought I'd post this question:
How do I get this thing to work correctly?

I am running Windows 10, and I am having the same problem as the OP.  My scan gets to "Sensitive documents", and then slows at 91%, advancing very slowly from there to 95%, where it stalls.

I left it running all night, and there was no forward movement.

I have tried "Repair" just now, and am letting it run again.   Now it seems to  have stalled at 91%.  [I let it run half an hour, no change.]

I will next try a complete uninstaill and get back to you

Please uninstall AVG using AVG Clear and Remover tool: https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Uninstall-AVG-software to remove the traces completely. 
Reinstall AVG Internet Security as suggested here: https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Download-and-install-AVG-Protection and check the status.

Did not work.  I used the repair option after clicking uninstall and it still stops at 99%.
It's been two hours. 
What is the next suggested step?

I too have this same problem (never gets past 92 %).  I stop it by closing window and when a pop up appears (top left) click close.  Started at last app update, a few days ago.

Thank you, Dinesh Krishnan.  I didn't wait for your reply.  After rebooting I completely removed AVG Internet Security, then went to my account, downloaded and reinstalled it.
The reinstallation worked fine.  Complete scan completed in a matter of minutes, and I secured over four hundred "sensitive documents" - whatever that means :wink:
