Scanning Core Module Server Part is using way too many resources

Not sure why the AVG Scanning Core Module Server Part has just started up, but it's been running for some time and making my CPU, Disk and Memory all run 50 to 90%.  How do I keep this from crippling my Surface Pro 3?
