Thank you for following the instructions and installing AVG Internet Security in your PC.
Please note that when you click on "Scan computer" on AVG dashboard, it will start a full computer scan. It will scan each and every file on your PC. If it is a first scan after the installation, it would take a bit more time to finish.
The device should be active at the time of scheduled scan and if it is not active, then the scheduled scan will run only in next instance.
We have implemented few changes to AVG 2017 version. We are planning to provide the 2017 version with the complete options that was requested, hence every customers are satisfied with it.

Following Alok's remote assistance on Friday to install the above, I have a few questions please:-
1.- I have just had my first completed Schedule Scan and it took 45 mins to complete whereas with my old version of Internet Security it would take about 10 to 15mins to complete. Why the big difference?
2.- I had no pop-up notification box to inform me that the schedule scan had started or when it had completed whereas my old version did tell me via a pop-up notification box. Is there a way to get this?
3.- If my laptop is not switched on at the Schedule scan start time, why doesn't it start when I switch on at a later time the same day?

I understand the option you are referring to. The scheduled scan duration might change depending on the content of the hard disk. Sometimes, it may take longer time than usual.
We also do not have a separate notification window about the scheduled scan in 2017 version. However, once the scheduled scan is initiated, we can see the scanning message in the User Interface. Once the scan is completed, you will see an indication pointer next to "Scan Computer" floating button.

I didn't click on "Scan computer". It was a Scheduled Scan that took 45mins to complete.
Also, would you please answer my question re Notification pop-ups. Why do i not get a Notification box to tell me that a Scan has started or completed? The previous version of AVG Internet Security had it.
