We regret to hear about the inconvenience caused. Please repair the AVG Anti-Virus free and check the scheduled scan. Please follow the instructions to repair AVG :
Go to Start -> Control Panel.
Note: Click Settings first if Control Panel is not available in the Start menu.
Open (Programs) -> Programs and Features, or Add or Remove Programs.
Select "AVG Protection" in the list of programs.
Click the Change or Change/Remove button.
Select Repair.
Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
Restart your computer.

There are 2 program entries for AVG Protection. I repaired the one with the most recent date, and my scheduled scan is running correctly. Thank you.
However, the Last Computer Scan is not incrementing, and no popup messages are appearing.

Thank you for your efforts in fixing the issue. We can understand that you have both 2016 version and 2017 version of AVG Protection. Please uninstall your old AVG Protection 2016 version from the control panel to avoid conflict.

When the scheduled scan starts automatically, the progress screen shows it is running (magnifying glass rotates around screen), but the progress bar stays at 0% and nothing is displayed under "Scanning for viruses & other malware...". The report file shows the scan actually started and ended; it is just the progress screen doesn't change. I must click "Stop Scan" to make this stop. During this time, the System Tray icon continuously shows a scan is running. This happens both when the computer is idle (screen saver displayed or blank screen) and when the computer is in use.
When the same scheduled scan is started manually via "Run Scan Now >" everything works.
I shutdown last night and booted up today. The scheduled scan had the exact same problem again - progress bar stays at 0% and nothing is displayed under "Scanning for viruses & other malware…". When I looked in Control Panel I see that the other/older AVG Protection is now listed above the one I repaired.
I tried to uninstall the older AVG Protection and it failed immediatly, with:

Note that both entries are 'AVG Protection'. No year is listed in the program name for either entry. The Installed On dates are 4/1/2017 (older entry) and 5/8/2017 (newer entry - the one Repaired a few days ago). Neither entry has a 2016 date.

After running both the tools please restart the PC and install the AVG again.
