I understand your concern.
To get AVG schedule scan successful you should have your PC turned on at the time of schedule scan and PC shouldn't be on sleep mode.
If you have AVG 2017 version installed then the reports of scan cannot be viewed on the program interface whereas it has to be enabled and can be viewed in this path C:Program Data\AVG\AV\Reports.
Open AVG Internet Security dashboard and Click on Settings near Scan computer > Select the small Gear beside the scan type > Report file > Generate file to check the scan reports.

What is the required state of my computer in order for the scheduled scans for the AVG Antivirus work? (sleep, cover closed, power on etc.)
Also where do I see the scan events took place and how did it go? that sort of questions.
