I read the article and I can't get the little gear symbol to click.  Come to find out I won't be able to use AVG or Avast because I have Carbonite backup and the two softwares do not play well together.

I can't find a way to schedule scans.  I run them early am when I'm sleeping.  I hope the new version works on XP

Hello Sandra,
We regret for the inconvenience caused.
It is advised not to keep more than one anti virus program on your computer because it keep conflict the other anti virus from installation and protection.
Please try to uninstall Avast and repair AVG http://avgread.me/1BVxDSY to fix the issue.
Thank you.

I have never had more than 1 anti virus program on my computer.  I have never used Avast.  What I said was I have Carbonite (a backup program) and since installing AVG it keeps crashing.  Carbonite support said AVG and Avast are the only 2 anti virus programs that interfer with Carbonite and to use something else
