Hello Alan,
Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
At the time of the schedule for scanning do you use your computer or just leave it idle?
If you are using the computer at the time of scheduled scan it would delay the scanning progress.
Also we request you to completely remove the AVG free 2015 version and install our latest 2016 version.
1) To download the AVG remover tool please click on this link:

Thanks for such a quick reply.
First, the computer is on when I come to it in the morning at 7:00 - I have a wake-up script that runs earlier in the morning so that my Acronis True Image backup starts & completes before I get my PC in the morning. That is another dog to my system if it starts when I would "wake" my PC in the morning.
Second, I was out last night when the shown scheduled scan was supposed to run. And, I don't buy that it would not have run while I was using the PC — that is exactly what it's doing when I'm sitting here using it and when I penned this thread. That process started at 7:59am and I could tell when things started "stuttering" in behavior.
Lastly, I am not uninstalling and re-installing this software. Yeah, I know it may clear something out of the registry that is stuck, but I'm not doing it. If that is the best we can come up with - versus, perhaps, a path to the Registry where this value may be locked up and incorrect - I'll just punt.
