Scheduling scans for times when I'm not using the computer

Hi Frank,

This isn't the experience we want you to have. We'd like to help you with this.
Please remove the existing scheduled scans & create new scheduled scan depending on your preference by following the steps mentioned below create customer scan in this article.
Additionally, please ensure that the scan isn't set to run when the laptop runs on battery. To do so, enter geek settings area & locate the scheduled scans to ensure that the options are already enabled for 'Do not run scan on batteries' & 'when battery mode begins'.
Please try the above steps & let us know if it helps.

Hi

I've got AVG Free installed on a (much) older HP laptop (2 GB RAM, 3GHz CPU, 250 GB HD). It is running windows 7.

When AVG decides to do a scan the various services of AVG that are running (according to Task Manager) tend to use about 72% of the CPU and up to 90% of the free RAM (what Windows and HP-shovelware haven't already stolen).

The result is the laptop is useless when the scan is being done.

How do I schedule the scans for some time other than the middle of my working day, or ten seconds into the most work intensive hour of the month, which seems to be the time AVG likes to pick.

My employer (whom the laptop belongs to) is not going to spring for a new device or for a subscription. The price might sound very reasonable to people living in the real world, but when your native currency is 17 to the single US dollar, and 24 to the UK pound the monthly subscription becomes rather expensive.

Should I start looking for a less resource intensive Anti-Virus package.

Thanks and regards
Frank
