Shari, With Win 8 Windows Defender is classified as an AntiVirus prog… which can conflict with AVG therefore that's why it's inactive. AVG Free doesn't include a firewall. It's part of AVG Internet Security which you have to pay for.

Windows Defender is supposed to be installed on this pc, but I got a message that it wasn't active. ok, how will AVG react with Defender, assuming its hiding somewhere in there?
In 'scheduled scans' some are checked, others not. What to do about these unchecked ones ?
Is there a firewall already installed with AVG ?
Does 'upgrade to activate' mean i pay for this upgrade ?
I can only afford the free version at this time.
