This issue is still present in the latest update - AVG AntiVirus v16.141.7996
The program generates Event ID:7006 errors during every startup and shutdown of Windows.
The Windows "System Event Log" records an Error (using the Red ! symbol) - 2x during startup of Windows and 1x during shutdown. It appears that the "AVG Self Protection" feature is blocking access to certain AVG Registry entries that AVG itself is trying to update.
AVG appears to function OK despite the registry access errors - but it doesn't inspire confidence when a security program generates these types of errors accessing its own registry entries. This problem needs fixing ASAP. DougCuk - Tech Support Engineer - London UK
AVG team, this problem still exists as of 12/26/2016. My system is Windows 10 64-bit. I also uninstalled / reinstalled AVG. Problem persisted. It is obvious that if I turn off AVG Self protection the error will disappear.
Please advise what I should do. Is it safe to turn that option off? Or you can provide a fix?
Thanks,
I am having EXACTLY the same errors as Guy Wells. Running Win 7 x64.
The workaround - disabling Self-protection eliminates the error. However, I have no idea what self-protection does. But, I am leaving it disabled.
Is this a risk? Will there be a fix? Do I need to switch to another anti-virus?
I'm also getting this error (System Event ID: 7006 "The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error: Access is denied.") since updating to 2016.121.7859.
System details:
Windows 10 x64 Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.321
AVG AntiVirus Free Edition Version number: 16.121.7859
AVG Framework 1.132.2.38575
AVG Setup 1.132.2.38575
There is a workaround by disabling the AVG Self Protection (in advanced settings) and on rebooting no event 7006 (set protection on and re-boot and error is back). I remember this happening in version 2013.0.2805 and taking along time to sort out (about 6 months from December 2012!). So this could possibly be some sort of regression?

We are sorry to know that, to assist you better, could you please send us the screenshot of the event log and the let us know the AVG version installed in your computer?http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot
Thank you
After reinstalling the most recent AVG Protection to fix the missing icon in the system tray on Windows 7 64x, now i get a "ScRegSetValueExW access denied" error in windows event log. This error occurs every time on startup. Only uninstall AVG completely from the system solves this issue. After reinstall AVG the error is back again.
Is this a bug?

Yes i have the Firewall component installed manually. But it solves not the error in the event log. Today Windows update showing a new update notification, named "Definition Update for Windows Defender KB915597 (Definition 1.231.94.0).
Will this mean that my installed AVG Internet Security - Unlimited (paid version) has not disabled Windows Defender?
Diesel,
Could you let us know whether you are using a free version or a paid version of AVG you are using?
