This isn't the experience we want you to have. We'd like to look into this & help you. 
Please clarify whether you access emails through browser or email client such as Outlook, Thunderbird. 
Also, what happens while accessing emails when connected through AVG Secure VPN. Do you receive any error message?
If so, share us the screenshot of it for better clarity.
