Hello Mark,

I understand the inconvenience that you are experiencing with AVG.
I request you to perform a complete reinstall of your AVG Ultimate program to check whether it resolves the issue.
Firstly, disable AVG Internet Security program by following the steps as mentioned in this article: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-use-Passive-Mode .

I have been a loyal customer/user of AVG for years  and for the past couple of years I have paid for AVG Ultimate (AVG Anti-Virus/Internet Security & AVG PC Tuneup) as well as AVG Driver Updater. But at the moment I am not very happy with AVG Internet Security.

I began having problems recently (and quickly) with having to keep turning the protection on as every time I would turn on the system (or reboot) the protection would be shut off. Before I could write in about the problem I noticed that there were new protections available (Enhanced Firewall) so I turned that on, as recommended, and found that I could no longer use Firefox (for my web browser)  or Thunderbird (for my e-mail).

Both programs would be shown as having their processes running in Task Manager, but the Enhanced Firewall would not allow the programs to work. So I closed down their processes and then turned off the Enhanced Firewall and found that both Firefox & Thunderbird opened just fine as long as the firewall was turned off.

Well, just as I was going to inquire about both of my new problems, a much more serious problem raised its head. AVG informed me that I had an update ready to be installed and I needed to reboot the system, so… I gave it permission to do so.  Big mistake! Upon rebooting I noticed an exclamation point over the AVG Internet Security icon in the taskbar. It has the message, "ERROR: Click for More Info." Upon doing so nothing happened. So I right-clicked over the Icon and was shown the normal pop-up for Internet Security (showing the Open, Scan Computer & the" Protection is On, notification. Only none of the buttons worked. Clicking any ot them did absolutely nothing.

The only Internet Security feature I could use was AVG Zen was showed that Internet Security was not protecting and needed to restart in order to complete the update. Six reboots later, it is still saying the same thing! . So I thought I would check the messages for my computer and was taken to the screen showing that:

1) " A restart is needed to enable some of our security features."
2) "Your Computer protection is broken"
3) "Your Hacker Attacks protection is broken."

Below this was a waiting symbol saying, "Connecting." And than never stops.

Looking in Task Manager, only a couple of the AVG processes were shown as working so could confirm the program was not working correctly. So, I tried to get back online and realized I had last had the Enhanced Firewall on, so it was not allowing Firefox or Thunderbird to operate. So, I lost my e-mail and my browser. (I am having to do this through an old version of Opera which is dismal at best.)

I am disabled and my computer is a lifeline for me. That is why, with the little money I have, that I could do the best to keep my old computer running as I cannot afford to upgrade to a new system (I am using Windows XP). So I am asking to help me resolve this as quickly as possible. I look forward to any and all assistance you can offer. Thank you.
