I've recently upgraded to the latest AVG Free for Windows, and encountered a problem with the scheduling of definition updates. When I turn the computer on, AVG tries to update immediately, before the WiFi has connected, and so the update fails. On previous versions of AVG, I've always had things set up so that all updates take place at a time of day when I know that the computer will be on, but I won't be using it as I'll be having a meal at that time. Unfortunately, for some reason, I can't change the update setting from "Run automatically" to "schedule running" to allow me to specify a set time for the update. Is there a reason for this, and how do I change it so that I can specify the time and prevent attempts to update before the WiFi connection is active?
Well, given how it was available in older free versions, removing it is something of a retrograde move, isn't it? I'm sure I'm not the only one who is unhappy with this move, and I hope that you reverse it at the earliest possible opportunity.
Adrian, I'm afraid that's now the situ… Statement from the User Manual…
Schedule running
By default, the task is launched automatically (Run automatically) as soon as a new virus definition update is available. Unfortunately, for AVG AntiVirus Free Edition, there is no personal settings of this task available. Should you like to have access to further and extended functionality of AVG paid products; then please visit AVG website (http://www.avg.com/) for AVG purchase information.

Adrian, With AVG Free the scheduling of definition updates isn't available. You may find the User Manual useful (http://download.avg.com/filedir/doc/AVG_Free/avg_free_uma_en_ltst_08.pdf).
