Settings for steam in home streaming

Hello Sam,

We will help you with this.
It is not necessary to directly go for adding ports.
Let us try changing the network profile of AVG Firewall.
Open AVG Internet Security interface.
Click on "Menu–>Settings–>Components–>Customize" of Enhanced Firewall.
Click on "network profiles" and change the profile to "private", if it was set to "public".
Keep us informed about the status.

I'm also having the same problem too, BUT the difference with me is I'm using the latest version of AVG Internet Security… which is very different from the 2018 version.

I can't find ">Components–>Customize" of Enhanced Firewall" inside of "Menu–>Settings–" of the 2020 version of AVG Internet Security?
BUT I was able to find AVG Internet Security > Menu > Settings > General > Exception > and Add the file path of Steam to AVG's exception!

BUT my main problem is I can't get my steam link device to link up with my steam program account on my computers and laptop becuse of AVG Internet Security is blocking the linking procces between steam & steam link, just like Sam Ashley… I also have the ports required from steam to use steam and play steam games.

I tried to do the link between steam & steam link device… but it doesn't seem to be working, I tried going into "network profiles" and change the profile to "private" via AVG Internet Security… BUT now steam isn't connecting to the steam survers… OR starting up at all on my computers & Laptop?

I also tried turning off the AVG's firewall on both my host and client pc then it works purfectly… but obviously this is less than ideal, unfortunately the information on how to fix this problem on the avg support page seems to be none-existant at all… ecept for this semi-example of an exeption here?

Hi,
I was wondering if so one could help with how to set up the correct ports for steam in-home steaming through avg's
enhanced firewall.
I have the ports required from steam but ive tried putting then into avg's packet rules but it doesn't seem to be working.
if I turn the firewall off on both my host and client pc then it works fine but obviously this is less than ideal, unfortunately the information on how to add apps on the avg support page seems to be for a old version.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
sam

Hi Klinton,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
Please try modifying few firewall settings in AVG by following the below steps:
Open AVG Internet Security - Menu - Settings - Full protection - enhanced Firewall - Enable Internet connection sharing mode by checking it.
Followed by it, click on system rules in the same page & enable the 1st 2 options : Allows windows file & printer sharing, remote desktop connection.
If issue persists, please write back to us in your own post, which will help us to provide you our additional support.

Hi Bala,

thanks for the help, I have changed the network profile to 'private' on both the host and client PC, but this doesn't seem to of resolved the issue.

Do you know what I should try next?

many thanks
Sam

Alright, let us check if AVG Firewall component blocks steam access on your PC.

Please follow the below steps to check if AVG firewall blocks steam:

AVG Internet Security > Menu > Settings > Components > AVG Firewall > Drop down > Application rule > Check for steam and change the settings to all connections

If not create a new application rule for steam.

You can also try adding the steam application to AVG's exception list.

AVG Internet Security > Menu > Settings > General > Exception > Add the file path of Steam to AVG's exception

then check with the issue.
