After the recent AVG update, my settings app in windows 10 will not open. It tries to start but crashes

We suggest you to try disabling AVG Antivirus and check if you still face issue with the windows settings.
Right-click the AVG icon in the System Tray. This is located in the lower-right corner of the desktop. …
Click Temporarily disable AVG protection.
Choose how long you want the protection to be disabled and whether to disable the firewall as well.
Click OK.

I have the latest edition og AVG FREE installed on my pc. 24.7.9311.855 There are no error messages when the Settings app fails to open. Within 4 sec of the main settings screen coming up. the app simply closes. I'm running Windows 10 and had the latest updates installed before this issue with the latest AVG update required a restart of the pc. No screenj shot to share
