Hi,Whilst access to the server is password protected individual files are not. Additionally when the program states "sharing violation" it automatically offers a substitute file to save but this file is itself unavailable. If you go straight to the file using windows explorer you can niether open or delete either the origional file or the substitute file. You get a message saying another program is using the file?
Thank you for the information, Richard.

I am running Win XP on a iMac as a virtual machine. I have a Synology DS214SE server I use for backup. If I open a file in either word or excel, which is on the server, neither program can "save" my changes claiming a "sharing violation" Removal of AVG or shutting down the whole system seems to resolve the problem. I have already removed Avast as my anti virus for exactly the same problem. Excel help points out that this "sharing violation" is probably caused by the anti virus program. This problem does not seem to effect the mac when using pages. Excel help suggests asking the anti virus manufacturer for a work round?
Hello Richard,
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Does this issue occur for all of the Microsoft files or with those that are password protected?
