I am now able to access my computer. I went into system settings and changed the date to earlier.
Initially AVG came up with a Trojan warning. When I went into the history the log showed 2 unresolved Trojan viruses. I chose to do nothing, expecting that they would be there later on and I could address them with a little better knowledge base. BUT, now yesterday's scan and those two items are GONE!
It says my AVG was updated a few hours ago and that everything is working and protected. I would like to run a full scan again, but am afraid to try it after yesterday's fiasco.
Any advice is much appreciated.

@Dean,
Please try to follow Dirk's suggestion to boot your PC to safe mode and running sfc scan to fix missing dll files. We would like to confirm that this false positive is fixed now and please consider upgrading your AVG to latest version.

Hi I have exactly the same problem. Could you explain exactly how you fixed it with date settings please? I tried changing the system settings clock in F2/F12 boot back a variety of days but I still get the Shell32.dll error and black screen when it tries to boot to desktop. Many thanks, Dean

Hello Signe,
I am sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused. Can you please share the screenshot http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot of the Trojan message to check and assist you further?
When I attempt to log in the first message that comes up is the AtBroker.exe System Error. When I click OK the second message appears entitled explorer.exe System Error. I am unable to send images as they are larger than allowed. They both say: The program can't start because SHELL32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
When I click OK after the second message I have a blank screen, which has been either light blue or black.
When I attempt to log in a get a message titled AtBroker.exe - System Error. If I click on OK I get a second message titled explorer.exe - System Error. When I click on OK there it goes to a blank screen, either light blue or black.
I am unable to send images as the files are too large. Both messages say: The program can't start because SHELL32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling to fix this problem.
If the file is still missing, it may help too boot Windows into Safe mode with command prompt by hitting F8 fast and often during boot (sometimes F5 is the proper key). On the command prompt, enter
sfc /SCANNOW
This should repair the missing file and the system should be running fine again after a reboot then.
