Shields turn off in front of me

Hi all,
Recently (within the last couple of weeks) AVG keeps telling me "Some shields are turned off" with a big red button next to it. So I turn them on (the button turns green) and watch as it shuts itself off again within a couple of seconds. I ran AVG to see if there was a virus (there was not). Any ideas? Thanks.
