Shortcuts on desktop open and then immediately close

I deleted all shortcuts and reinstalled using chrome and all do work now.  thank you

Just started this week that when I click on shortcuts to yahoo, gmail etc. on my desktop, the site opens but then immediately closes.  I have windows 7 professional.........scanned with avg and no virus........updated java, NVidia color card and continues to happen.......any help or suggestions would be appreciated.....
