Since March update XP sp3 machines no longer hibernating

After disabling and attempting to hibernate the system still hangs at 'preparing to hibernate' but I also see in task manager that even when disabled AVG is still running.

I also see that AVGBugReport.exe is running and taking a lot of clock so AVG has some data on this.

Fran, Thanks for starting this thread.  I, too, have had this problem since the AVG update.  Have wasted much time trying to fix…to no avail.  Being a novice, I shut down AVG but as you know this did not help.  Restarting the PC each time takes almost 10 minutes as AVG utilizes 98-99% of my computer's processor time at each restart!!!  At least I only have about a week until my subscription expires!  Looks as if it is time for a different protection program!

You will have to explain what good that will do.  I have another XP machine, a laptop, that has auto updated to 18.3 and no longer will hibernate.  Others have posted of this XP incompatibility issue, so you know of it.  I need to know when you are going to have a solution to this hibernation issue because uninstalling and reinstalling will do no good.  You would have to offer version 17 to reinstall instead, before your 2018 updates.  Otherwise, you should be telling people that AVG no longer works with XP systems.

Fran,

I understand your concern. But we have released 18.4 version. So it is necessary to update the program to the latest version. If you have already upgraded to the latest version, then we need to analyze the issue further and I need to submit your concern to our senior technicians along with other diagnostic logs. I have sent you an email with steps on how to collect and upload the data required for analyzing your issue. Please check your inbox and spam/junk folder as well.

I have upgraded, but the issue persists now on two seperate XP systems.  Reinstalling the current version will do no good - Are you going to offer a rollback to version 17 for XP users?  If not, it seems pointless to go on with AVG.

Since the March update and reboot my WIn XP/ SP3 machine no longer will hibernate or stand by, the system gets to 'preparing to hibernate' and simply hangs.  I have tried re-configuring AVG and shutting down various background scanning and other features but nothing gets around this issue. I have checked my system event logs for error but nothing on this issue.   I have had to prevent the installation of this update on my other XP systems until a solution to this issue is reached.

Hello Fran,
May I know if the issue is resolved when AVG protection is disabled? Right click on AVG system tray icon and toggle the On/Off slider to disable AVG protection.
Best regards,
Alok.

Roger, please accept my apologies with regards to the AVG software not living up to your expectations.

Yes. Now running 18.4.3056.

Can't hibernate since your March update.  Since I must shut down and then restart next time, the booting process - until my PC can do anything… is 13 minutes!!! During this time, AVGUI.exe utilizes  98-99% of processor time with lots of internet activity.

Don't bother asking me to send logs, etc…I'm done.

Well Alok, you are an engineer so you know that it is not possible to do that.  AVG is self protected, you cannot just remove it through the control panel's add-romove programs utility.   Give me the analysis of the bug report please.

My system activity is private, so no, I won't be installing your logger into my system or agreeing to allow you to use that data however you please.  You are aware of the incompatability of AVG with WinXP SP3 since March, so I would expect it would be a good idea to offer a backwind for XP users to install and run AVG 17.  Yes?

Microsoft has not offered any updates or patches to Windows XP/ SP3 since May 2017.  This absolutely cannot be the issue.

Hello Fran,

The issue could be because there is no recent updates released for Microsoft Winodws XP. We have to analyze if this is true or not. Hence we requested you to send the log files required for analysis.

After disabling and attempting to hibernate the system still hangs at 'preparing to hibernate' but I also see in task manager that even when disabled AVG is still running.

I also see that AVGBugReport.exe is running and taking a lot of clock so AVG has some data on this.

That's unusual that the issue persists even after the recent update.

Fran, I have sent you an email, please follow the steps from the email and send us the log files which will be analysed by our senior team.

They will soon contact you via email with a solution and explain you the cause of this issue.

I have upgraded to 18.4 and restarted but problem persists, the system still hangs when trying to go into hibernate.

Some services of AVG does include an updated version of Microsoft files. So, to analyse this we requested for the logs.

You can send your feedback regarding older version release from the AVG interface and it reaches the concerned team.

To send the feedback, open AVG Internet Security, click on "Menu->About->Submit Feedback".
