Slow computer performance since update to Ultimate

Updated to AVG Ultimate this month, March, on the PC and MacBook Air. Performance on both computers has been noticeably slowed. Also had a potential threat which could not be removed or quarantined. What does that mean? I have tried everything but uninstalling AVG and am very disappointed. I should also mention that I had numerous problems trying to install the product. I have been, satisfactorily, using AVG for many years and am now losing confidence in the product. Computer security is important these days and confidence in the product is paramount. Does AVG "support" have any suggestions?
