Hello Sven,
We're happy to help.
Enhanced Firewall controls when the apps on your PC can connect to the internet or to other networks. Enhanced Firewall creates default rules for an app when it starts for the first time.
To manually specify how Enhanced Firewall handles connection attempts from individual apps, please follow this article (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&supportType=home&urlName=Use-AVG-Antivirus-Enhanced-Firewall) to make necessary changes.
Thank you.
Occationally I need to download from external (trusted) vendors a new version of some of my installation files, but nothing happens.
Eventually I remember that my 'smart Firewall' must be (temporarily) disabled for this download to take place.
Is it possible to have AVG, instead of just preventing the download, to report it and ask me if this (specific) download shall be permitted?
We understand your concern, Sven.
From your message, we see that you need to identify the browser that opens the page when you click on the link.
If you prefer, you can take advantage of our additional support to make this process easier, by following the steps in the email that has been sent to you.
If I understand this article correct I need to know the precise APP used for my download in order to handle the situation?
How can I tell in advance which APP will be invoked? All I usually know is that I press a particular https-address in order to start the download. (In fact precisely like how I pressed the above https link in order to access that article.).
I had preferred a procedure where the Enhanced Firewall instead of just bloxkiing any security risk could warn me and ask whether or not to allow the particular action that raised the situation?
This must be much safer than making me settiing the Firewall wide open for some limited time or until I restart my system?
Glad to know that, Sven. If issue re-occurs, feel free to reach us. Have a great day. Stay safe!
