Hello Nick,
We will check and clarify you. You may experience a slower internet connection when using AVG Secure VPN. This is because a VPN encrypts traffic and data before sending it to a server.
Depending on the distance and capacity of the server, this process may cause a slightly slower, but safer, internet connection. Also, please share us the screenshot of the VPN page (http://https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-Create-screenshot) which shows " not valid IP address"
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on Answer & then click on the Image [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Thanks in advance.
I note that when testing speeds with and without AVG VPN my speeds drop from 110 mbps to 72 mbps
this is a substantial drop - is there a fix for this or is this what i should expect!!!??
I will try to describe it again.
when i hover the mouce over the wifi radio icon at bottom left of screen it tells me which network i am connectd to as usual but also says ... "unidentified network internet access" only when i turn on my avg.
VPN.
My question is firstly is this normal as it does it on both my desk top PC's and if so thats fine but it still does not answer why my speed has dropped so much ie: without VPN 110/34 with VPN as low as 59/31
Hello Nick,
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. You can refer the following link to create screenshot (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-Create-screenshot) If you are unable to access it, please do let us know.
correction - wifi radio icon at bottom "right" of screen
i appreciate a slight change due to incription but not half speed Rakshith - i look at my second PC and it is not anywhere nearly as badly effected? do you have any thoughts on a settings solution?
Nick, as further trousbleshoot step, disable any antivirus of firewall software that is installed on your PC and verify the issue.
You could also change the DNS settings and verify the speed.
Regarding the unidentified network access, it is because your internet connection is masked by VPN server's. It is normal behavior.

The slowness with internet speed with VPN turned on is an expected behavior.

You can change the location in AVG Secure VPN and check whether you could see a change in internet speed.
Uninstall and reinstall the application once and check again.
Also make sure that you do not have any other security application other than AVG.
I will try to describe it again.

Rakshith - look i really don't think uninstalling and reinstalling this application which i only installed in the last few days is going to resolve this issue. I will run it for a while longer and see how it goes but if you find any further more likely fixes for this issue let me know
Should read … To be honest …
