Still receiving Notifications when turned off

I am still receiving notifications when I have turned off notifications. This includes Enhanced Firewall Questions etc. Eg "Spotify is trying to listen fort connections to the internet". 
Can you advise how I can turn these off. Why does AVG overide my instruction to not send me notifications?
