Stop problems starting up when certain letters are typed

This appears to be a virus. Certain keys such are r, i, numbers 0, 4 cause the Windows shell32.dll to try and run prograammes. Initially it was Windows Media, which I shutdown, then it was another Media video program--which i uninstalled---then it kept coming and asking to say which programm should run with a certain dll extension--i tried to direct it to Adobe pdf---and now it is stuck on that and opens Adobe pdf reader constantly--I have to shut it down and cancel  etc etc --this has been happening all day--now my wife has somethinmg similar on her computer---- It happens on windows and other programmes-----very weird

This appears to be related to a windows file/programme, shell32.dll --it opens up media programmes and now unfortunately i directed it to Adobe as the file extension to open and it opens Adobe all the time–driving me crazy—
