Studio One cannot communicate with PlugInScanner

Hi Balasubramanian,

Thanks for your response.  However I need to leave the profile set to public.

Is it possible add a rule like:
Allow any connection to PlugInScanner.exe originating from this machine with destination port (ie PlugInScanner) in range (for example) 49152 to 65535.

Note that I have a reservation for my computer in the router so the computer's IP address will always be the same.

I run a Digital Audio Workstation from PreSonus called "Studio One" in Windows 10.  I upgraded Studio One to version 4 and it can now no longer scan for (VST) plugins.  When I temporarily disable AVG Internet Security (version 18.8.3071, build 18.8.4084.409) firewall, it can successfully scan for plugins.

In version 4, the plug in scanner was taken out of the main application and put into a separate application called PlugInScanner.exe (which runs on the same machine).  Looks like the main application cannot communicate with PlugInScanner.exe.  A filtered extract of the Enhanced Firewall log is shown below.

Can I put some rules in AVG to allow Studio One to communicate with PlugInScanner without having to disable AVG? If so, how?

Hello Paul,

We realize the situation. Let us try the basic change with the Firewall setting and then proceed further.
Open AVG Internet Security interface.
Click on "Menu–>Settings–>Components–>Customize" of Enhanced Firewall.
Click on "network profile" and if the profile is set to "public", select and change it to private.
Click Ok and check whether "Studio One" can connect perfectly.
Keep us posted.

Problem solved.  I set the default rule to Ask and that assisted me with understanding what was happening.

  1. Open AVG Internet Security.
    2. Click on Hackers attacks.
    3. Click 'Firewall options' and select 'Application rules' in the drop down.
    4. If you see the application that you wanted to allow or block internet access in the list, select it and change the rules as you need.
    5. If you do not see the application listed, click on 'New group', give it a name.
    6. Now click on 'New application rule', put it under whichever group you want including the newly created.
    7. Then assign rules to that application.
