Hi Chris,
Thank you for contacting AVG Community Support.
We are really sorry to know this. We'll certainly check and help you out.
It might be that certain updates might not be properly installed and hence leading to the overconsumption of CPU performance.
The fresh reinstallation will install all the updates and makes the PC stable.
Please let us know if you have performed the reinstallation. If not, please check for windows updates. After the windows updates check to reinstall the AVG program.
I hope after the reinstallation the CPU performance for AVG service is stable. If you still find the issue to be persisting even after the reinstallation. Please help us with the relevant screenshot. Awaiting your response.

AVGSvc.exe suddenly consumed half of my computer's CPU. This interrupted my work day as I had to find a remedy. Technical support tried to run me through their check list which required an uninstall & reinstall, but they could not offer (or accept responsibility) any further details to help me understand what happened. If appears this issue is common and a reinstall is necessary, but this brings the reliability of the program into question. Anyone with greater technical knowledge than the AVG technical support willing to offer some details to this circumstance?
