Sometimes, this might happen if there are any other antivirus installed on your machine.
In this regard, we'd suggest you to reinstall AVG Antivirus on your MAC & check the status.
If issue persists, share us the screenshot of the Activity monitor that shows the CPU usage.
Regarding the notification to buy extra features, would you be so kind to share us the screenshot of it as well (if you receive after reinstalling)?
If you're concerned about the price increase due to product enhancement, you can reach us to check the available offers at the time of renewal & renew it at a discounted price (if available).

I've just uninstalled my 2 year subscription and cancelled updates. I'm fed up with the software running 2 cores at 100%. I'm fed up with the 'you just need to buy some extra spam' and I'm fed up with a ridiculous price rise with no apparent improvement in function. I've been using AVG for Mac which has far fewer features than the windoze product (arguably that's because fewer features are needed) but literally the machine was getting hot to the touch and immediately I uninstalled it's like having a new machine. Tell me I'm wrong hive mind. Tell me why I need a hot computer and spam .
