One thing should be added:
Dear AVG team, … are you buying a new car just because it's almost impossible to get started? Or is a repair initially the first choice?
Why are you doing it differently at AVG-AntiVir? - Not the users of the whole world should set something new, … you should get older, running (and still in support!) Get up and running again!
Several times it has been posted here in the forum regarding this issue of AVG support that the versions of 2015 continue to receive support - the versions 2014 and below, however, still not.
Now suddenly, a few days after these multiple statements, the message comes isolated (for the first time?), That even the 2015 and 2016 versions fall out of support. - In my opinion, without any advance notice and very suddenly.
It makes me very much the impression that the versions 2015 should be kept upright, but … "some trainee at AVG" has released a wrong update which should disable the update function for certain versions - but not for those. And now, where AVG can not correct this error on the affected computers, since the update function was indeed disabled, it looked at AVG as a last resort - spontaneously within days for different messages in the forum - these versions stop unplanned completely to take the support.
At the same time, AVG could even exploit some circumstances in a business-friendly way:
The AVG software is now one of the few that still support Windows XP - and not only that. Even computers whose processor is not SSE2-compatible, were considered. Both together in combination - an almost impossible to find, maybe even unique interaction.
AVG could have decided to maintain the SSE2-independent and Windows XP-enabled 2015 release to serve those computers that continue to run on the old Windows XP operating system because their hardware does not meet the requirements for more up-to-date operating systems in an acceptable manner can. This circumstance often also implies that there is no SSE2 capability of the processor. - The 2015 version could have remained as an "island", while 2014 and below and 2016 would be excluded from support.
I think there are many users who would like to stay with AVG software - because they probably would have stayed that way if one day they switched to the latest hardware and software. And if these users were not already paying customers, they might have become the new hardware.
Paying and non-paying customers, forcibly evicted by AVG due to the circumstances described above, will be looking for other ways to protect their system - even if the remaining options are limited. … And no matter if they find an alternative or not - by AVG they would feel cheated and treated customer-unfriendly … and certainly never use AVG software again - certainly not to pay for versions!
The well-known mistake:
The software announces that it has to be updated - but after updating reports always being up to date.
I use an old system based on Windows XP and a Pentium 3 processor, which does not include SSE2.
Due to the lack of SSE2 compatibility, a more up-to-date version than AVG-2015 is not possible. Thus, it is not a solution to ask for uninstallation to install the current version AVG-2018.
Hey, AVG, … fixes the REASON of problems - and does not engage all users worldwide to uninstall, clean and reinstall the system!

AVG … thinks about keeping your non-paying and (in the future maybe) paying customers. A good way to do this is to persuade people who are condemned to still have an SSE2-incompetent processor to keep the software from AVG alive by receiving the 2015 release. Because then these people would someday stay with AVG with new hardware … and not where they could still find a welcome!
Thank you so much for the valuable feedback Jens M,
I'll forward it to our concern department, we will look into it.

Alok.

… but only a few days ago, on August 23, 2018, you personally wrote under the question "AVG have not posted any virus definitions since 14 August 2018 (Jack Beanstalk)":
"We are providing support and updates for the AVG version 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (We no longer support 2014 and below version)."
Today you personally write on the one hand, that the versions 2015 and 2016 receive no support by virus definitions … but only 7 days ago wrote - again you personally - that you support the versions 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, but not the Versions 2014 and older.
"We are providing support and updates for the AVG version 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (We no longer support 2014 and below version)."
Can AVG not decide what you want and what you do not want ???
Which personal statement should you trust now?
And … can AVG still be trusted if completely divergent statements are made within 7 days?
Jens, when Avast acquired AVG, we made a major change with the program engine and released the latest version.
Hence, a simple program update from old version will not install the latest version.
This is the reason we suggest customers to completely remove old version and install the new one.
This applies for all paid and free users of AVG. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
Hello Jens,
We regret the inconvenience caused. I’m afraid that AVG has already stopped releasing updates for AVG 2015 & AVG 2016 version. The only option available here is to install the latest version.
I’d suggest you to upgrade your Operating system (Windows XP), because Microsoft has already stopped providing security updates for Windows XP in 2014. So your computer might be vulnerable now.
I’m sorry, apart from this we don’t have any other options available.
Regards,
Alok.
Jens,
Recently we have received an official update that we have stopped releasing updates for AVG 2015 & AVG 2016 version. At AVG, we pride ourselves on giving our 100% every day to ensure that our customers’ needs are being met.
I know that we have let you down, and for that we are very sorry. We do not have an option to help you with virus definitions updates for AVG 2015 version on Windows XP SSE2 computer.
I want to thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We are always looking for ways to better our service/product, and your feedback is an invaluable part of that process. We would like to take this as a feedback for better service and better protection.
Regards,
Alok.
I am sorry for the confusion.
We have recently got an update that older versions of AVG like 2015 and 2016 versions is no longer receive AVG updates.
You need to update this programs to the latest version.

What are you talking about? - Elsewhere in this forum, it was said on this topic that AVG has not stopped the support of these versions - from 2015 (inclusive) would continue to be maintained.
"I’d suggest you to upgrade your Operating system (Windows XP), because Microsoft has already stopped providing security updates for Windows XP in 2014."
Think about it! - Why could someone operate a computer for several years with an outdated operating system? … The answer is simple: the computer does not have the performance required by a newer operating system - and it would be impossible or costly to change it.
Because with a change in the operating system, the problem would still not solved - the processor (no, the motherboard does not support higher quality!) Will continue to support no SSE2 … and thus, even under a more recent operating system, AVG-2015 depend on.
Because of a virus scanner so necessarily buy a new computer - because a more current operating system would reach the limits of hardware and the motherboard does not accept a higher-quality processor? — You are joking!!!
"I’m sorry, apart from this we don’t have any other options available."
AVG was one of the last ways to secure a computer running Windows XP, with an older processor and missing SSE2 support. And I think that many of the remaining XP users still use this operating system for this very reason - the hardware of the computer is different from other solutions!
If AVG-2015 were withdrawn from the market, which has not been communicated so far, AVG would disappoint a number of users - and rob them of the last chance they might have yet to protect such a computer. And should those users actually still find an alternative - they would later, with a new computer, probably no longer return to AVG.
AVG … please leave the owners of "weak" computers and / or those without SSE2 support not the last option to safety !!!
