Hi James,
We're glad to look into this & help you.
Please clarify whether you refer the address bar in AVG Secure browser & share us the screenshot of the VPN crossed out message for better clarity.
I have had VPN for many months now and I simply click it on and go. now suddenly it seems something is not right. On the address bar it shows the VPN crossed out, yet it is ON and green. When I click on the VPN crossed out it ask me to upgrade, if I click it it goes to a 404 error. Any ideas, am I still protected?
Thank you again for the screenshot, James.
As informed by our previous support, the 'crossed VPN' icon is an In-built VPN feature of AVG Secure Browser Pro.
AVG Secure Browser PRO is an upgraded version of AVG Secure Browser. If you upgrade to the PRO version, it will replace the free version on your device.
AVG Secure Browser PRO includes all of the same features as AVG Secure Browser, plus it automatically encrypts your internet connection via fast, unlimited built-in VPN with over 30 locations, and allows you to automatically block all ads and trackers.
We'd request you ignore the 'crossed VPN' icon available in your AVG Secure Browser as AVG Secure VPN will keep your online activity secure & private.
If you'd like to purchase AVG Secure Browser Pro, please click on the link below to reach our AVG billing team via live chat or call support to help you with this.

Thank you for understanding in advance.
Yes, AVG Secure VPN is activated and I have tried changing the location but it still shows the crossed out 'grey VPN' on the address bar. I am using the AVG Secure Browser.
It appears that a number of users have the same problem.
