There are no active components

AVG Internet Security - shows I have subscription until Nov 2017, my wife's computer so I'm unsure how long it has been like this, but when I see AVG icon in tray, it has exclamation point.

I open it up, all components are red, with a statement across top:  "There are no active components"  When I click inside each individual component, they have green / up to date/  etc.  License is active, I copied and reapplied, no change.  I rebooted, no change.

I went into windows defender, saw it had it's virus protection disabled.  Because I didn't know what was going on with AVG< I have turned it on - but I'm not sure why AVG is completely disabled.  I looked through all applications in Windows 10 and didn't see any other virus software installed.

Ideas?

Hello Tim,
I understand the inconvenience caused. I am sure we will be able to fix this together. In this case, I request you to remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG Internet Security. This will ensure that none of the previous traces of AVG are left on your computer and you have an updated version.
