Hi, I've also have this problem, since January 2018.
I've Repaired and restarted twice since then, and uninstalled/reinstalled after checking the AVG Support Site, but still no good.
It looks to be a known issue. I pay for this software so would like it fixed.
If this is not fixed within 7 days I will expect a full refund of any money I've paid you.

Perform (repair) of AVG Antivirus/Internet Security and check the status.
If the issue persists, perform scan manually and check whether you get the gear icon.
there is no gear to go deep scan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
