Thunderbird - Connection to server was reset

I reinstalled Windows 10 on my Dell XPS 13 laptop and now I am reinstalling my programs. I installed AVG Ultimate, and then I installed Mozilla Thunderbird for email. When I open Thunderbird and try to get new messages, I get a message saying "Connection to [my mail server] was reset". I found advice online to disable AVG Email Shield; I tried that, and now Thunderbird works fine, but obviously that is not a good long-term solution. Is there a way to have Thunderbird work with Email Shield running? Thank you!

Hello Dinesh,

Thank you for the quick reply. When I tried it this morning, I did not get the error – the AVG Email Shield is on, and my Thunderbird email seems to be working fine.

I'm not sure what happened. This is the second time that I've had a problem related to AVG that then resolved itself overnight without my doing anything. I guess I should learn to be patient before contacting support, but it seems odd. Does it sometimes take a little while for AVG and other applications to get used to each other (or something)?

Thank you for your help,
Mike N
