Hello Jenny,
We will work together to fix this issue.
Open AVG Internet Security installed on your computer, click on "Menu->Settings->Components->Email Shield", disable this component alone and check if you are able to download emails.
If yes, we request you to click on "Email Shield" component and uninstall the same from your computer.
Restart your computer and reinstall the "Email Shield" to check if that fix the issue.
If you face any difficulties, please let us know and we will assist you further.
Just in the last few days, AVG seems to be clashing with Thunderbird email client by preventing emails downloading. This has occurred since I downloaded the last AVG update two days ago. Thunderbird has not been upgraded in that time.
I found a solution on the Thunderbird site that there was a clash with anti-virus but it was solved two years ago. I can get my mail to download by disabling email protection temporarily, and it will prevail until the next time I reboot or turn off my PC even if I switch the protection back on - that's quite bizarre!
I got my mail to download last night, but this morning the problem is back. Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Hi
Your solution has fixed the problem for the time being, but I would like to know why just a simple component re-install would fix it, unless of course. AVG had to back out an update!
Also please bear in mind that I thought the solution provided by Thunderbird only worked for 12 hours and then returned. I won't be totally convinced that this is a complete fix unless I have done a few close downs and re-starts which will probably happen in the course of this evening as I work through some maintenance and checks for updates to other software running on my PC.
Thanks anyway, it's OK for now.
Jenny
Sadly the solution only worked temporarily. I am now back to square one with the messages failing to download more than the headers and the servers timing out.
The only messages I can read are the ones that I downloaded earlier, all the new ones, I can only see the headers of the newer ones.
Obviously it's wrong that I should have to keep disabling the email protection to be able to get stuff that I actually want, but currently, that is the only thing I can do. It is very obvious that AVG is at fault here.
We regret to hear that the issue persists.
