Thunderbird hangs when Email Scanner scans incoming emails

I checked for updates earlier but the software said I was up to date.

The "Personal Email Scanner" portion of my AVG Internet Security causes Thunderbird 45.4.0 to hang with "Not Responding" in the title bar. Turning off the "Check incoming email" option fixes it, but I don't want to keep that off. I want emails checked. Is there a fix coming? Surely I'm not the only one having this issue.
