Pandi,
I re-installed AVG Free then I uninstalled all the other components except for the e-mail scanner. That worked. AVG Free now scans my e-mail.
Someday I'd like to re-install the "Resident Shield" and the "Software Ananyzer" but those components prevented my WinTV V7 and PSI V3 (from Flexera Software) from working. The WinTV program gives me a screen that says "No Signal". PSI hangs when it checks for outdated software on my PC (particularly when it checks my version of Nuance's NaturalSpeaking).
In AVG, I recall putting WinTV in the exception list and WinTV worked. Since PSI checks all my programs, I don't know if I'd have to put all my programs in the exception list or just the PSI program. When a program is updated (such as PSI or WinTV), they could contain a virus… especially if a program is well known and used by many people. Consequently, I do not like the idea of putting ANY executables or program folders in an exception list. I hope AVG can fix their program so we do not have to use an exception list (or at least use an exception list only temporarily with a gentle weekly reminder that "You have programs in your AVG scanning exception list").
Hello David,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. If you have already installed the Email scanner in the AVG program, you can uninstall the other components from the AVG program by opening AVG Antivirus -> Menu at the top right -> Settings -> Components -> Down arrow. You will find the uninstall option next to every component that you wish to remove.
Please follow the instructions above and contact us for further help.
Thank you.
Both WinTV (Hauppauge) and Secunia's PSI suddenly stopped working and I traced it to AVG Internet Security. The fresh install of AVG Free still causes WinTV and PSI to not work. There are a lot of WinTV folders to put into the exception list. As for Secunia's PSI, it interacts with all my programs. Putting all my programs into the exception list is out of the question.
I decided to turn off everything in AVG Free except for e-mail scanning. Even with everything else turned off, AVG still prevents WinTV and Secunia's PSI from functioning. Is there a way to ONLY download the e-mail scanner component of AVG?

Hello David,
We are glad to know that the issue with AVG scanning email got resolved.
Actually, we have to be careful in adding the .exe files to the exceptions of AVG.
The .exe files should be the trusted one and only then we recommend customers to add it to exceptions.
Our developers will analyze the .exe file and then if it is confirmed as safe then will add it to virus definitions updates.
We request you to provide the .exe file information of the application that was blocked by AVG to us through this link: http://www.avg.com/submit-sample so it will reach the developers team and the update will be released as soon as possible.
Thank you.
