I understand your concern.
In your case, there are chances for AVG to work if you get the files cloned to another partition.
However, if any error occurs then it is recommended to complete remove AVG files using removal tools and install the program.

I have two questions.  Will AVG still work, if I clone my C drive to another disk (SSD)?  Also, do I need to include the second partition, which is the RECOVERY partition, with the AVG$ or will AVG recreate it?  The RECOVERY partition is too big to fit on the SSD with the C drive.  I need to eliminate it or place it on another drive.
