Sorry for the delay in responding.
We can't say what is broken with the office as there are no data. I would recommend restoring Windows to the point before making changes with PC TuneUp. In case it won't help, please run a repair installation of Office.

Microsoft office and other applications are 'broken' after trial TunePC ran - I have done the 'restore' (found online) but that has not fixed the problem(s). What next / (so not impressed )

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused to you. Please check if you had put MS Office to sleep from running in the background and wake it to resolve the issue.
Open AVG PC TuneUp, click on All functions.
Click on "Disable background programs" under Installed programs.
You must see a list of programs running in the background.
Scroll down to see the list of programs which were already put to sleep.
Check if MS Office is also put to sleep and click on Wake.

Do you mean the issue with MS Office applications persist even after waking it up from Sleeping programs? If yes, the issue does not seem to be caused by AVG. Please consider repairing or re installing the MS Office suite. If the issue persist, please contact Microsoft support.

Yup - did that, no help - still 'broken'
