Trojan horse false positive

Thank you for your response. I have checked and I already have the current version of the program installed  and my problem is not fixed. Even if AVG had solved the false positive problem, I am still left with the fallout of not having the twain_32.dll in c:\windows and the usual Microsoft tools cannot fix the problem. I need a solution to my problem which has been caused by AVG.

Can you pls tell me how to repair using the USB created by following the above instructions.

Hi,
Hope  someone can help.
Over the last week I had two reports from AVG saying, in effect, that it had detected a Trojan horse. In retrospect, I foolishly asked AVG to fix. Then, yesterday when trying to install a film strip scanner I kept getting a msge saying that it could not access twain_32.dll.
During my troubleshooting I subsequently discovered that no scanners of mine (I have 3) can access twain_32.dll.
AVG report that they had identified a false positive with twain_32.dll and that it would be fixed in virus definition 14607. Yet when I go to the About screen the virus definition version is 170626-4 .I have AVG Internet Security and have updated this morning  (Canberra AU time) Further, I need twain_32.dll be reinstated so my scanners will work. I have tried sfc /scannow and dism scan, check and restore.
Please help sort out this mess.

Hello Robyn,

Please insert the USB disk in your computer and restart. While your computer restarts, you will be prompted with two options "Enter into your computer normally: or repair the OS from the USB driver. Please select repair from USB drive and that should fix the issue.
Hello again.
I had already checked for quarantined files and there were none. As advised, I used passive mode and installed the film slide scanner. This time the install completed and I cheked that twain_32.dll was in c:\windows but the software did not list the scanner as available. Windows can see the scanner and reports it as working. Both my other scanners do not show as available either but can be seen by windows.I then ran sfc /scannow the output of which details 5 dll files which are corrupt and cannot be repaired by sfc. It appears that the store copies have been corrupt or deleted. The dll files are: twain_32, fdeploy, fde, gpedit and gptext.  Microsoft advise to copy known good copies of these files manually. As I have no other Win10 pc or a Win10 CD/DVD I do not have access to known good copies
of these files. Please help.
Hello Robyn,

I can understand your concern. You can create Windows installation disc at https://goo.gl/qrThrj and then use it for repair. This way, you will get legitimate files for this OS version.

Hello Robyn,
