by that I meant the email and password I used to register for the AVG Support Community
no, K. that didn't help at all. Program will still not open. Just spinning blue circle for a few seconds. And I have an exception in the firewall to let it through.

ok, K…I followed your instructions and downloaded and installed the file. The first time I did not install as administartor and it hung at 92% complete. Then I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and installed as administrator. That time it worked. I was able to scan the computer and all was fine. Then I closed the program, restarted it, and it still did a scan. However when I rebooted the system, AVG would not start. This happened also when I tried to use Avast Antivirus (which is no longer on my computer)
BTW, when I installed from the link you sent me, it never asked for my account information like it shows on the webpage instructions
Repairing did not help. Blue circle spin only. Tried to start AVG in safe boot and got an error message that said
UI failed to load
this is really embarrasing
AV service is not responding
exit restart service
"as I deleted them all"
thanks Alan…I tried to shut off Defender but couldnt figure out how. Can you tell me for w10 home update 1709 ?
