New notebook. AVG is blocking my external dvd player from downloading my printer. How do I get around this block? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Appreciate your attempt in sharing us the screenshot, Sharon. 
You can try taking a snapshot of the message that you receive from AVG, using a mobile/camera & then share it with us for better clarity. 
Meanwhile, please try disabling AVG components individually to identify the component that is causing the issue & let us know.
