Tuneup utilities not responding

For the last few days now tuneup utilities 2014 and 1 click maintenance will not start.  The splash screen comes up with about 1cm of the blue "progress bar" showing but doesn't get any further.  Clicking the screen produces the message "tuneup utilities (not responding)".

There have been no recent Windows updates and I have tried restoring to a time when they were working but still the same.

Decided to try again: I uninstalled again using AVG removal tool, this time it couldn't find 3 files (one x64, one x86 and a win32) I let it continue to remove everything else.  I then reinstalled using my original downloaded file (not the one from http://bit.ly/1zpftPj) and now the program is working OK.

This problem started a few days ago, I opened Firefox to find that my home page had been changed (not by me!) to AVG search, I changed it back to Google and next time I tried to use tuneup the problem started.

Both splash screens open without the "Not Resonding" but go no further, the "Not Responding" only appears if I click the screen.

How do I attach the AVG_screenshots.7z?

HOW STRANGE: because I couldn't attach the .7z file I decided to try a .jpg. Opened 1-click maintenance, pressed prt.sc, when I tried to paste it the screen was blank ie no splash screen. I returned to the desk top and 1-click maintenance was running!  It still won't run itself, only if I prt.sc and paste.

Tuneup utilities will run if I do 2 prt.sc. After the first the blue bar moves to about 3/4 then another prt.sc and the programm starts!



I already did that before I contacted AVG and have now also uninstalled / reinstalled using the removal tool etc.

OK tried all that but still exactly the same thing is happening!
