AVG AntiVirus FREE is the only AVG program listed. It shows today's date as the date installed but I presume there was an automatic update because I have been using AVG for several months.

A second AVG shortcut suddenly appeared on my desktop. The icons are identical but the targets are different. One points to C:\Framework\Common\avguix.exe /avg.open_ui
The other points to C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\Antivirus\avgui.exe
They both seem to bring up the same AVG user interface. I assume I can delete one of the shortcuts but which one? Why has this happened?

Thank you for confirming it. Please be informed that 'AVG' icon belongs to the management console (AVG Zen) and 'AVG Anti Virus Free' icon launches the anti virus dashboard.

AVG Zen is the user interface for AVG product and it is now called as AVG management console.
Please be informed that there will not be two icons appearing for AVG anymore.
We will release the fix for this as soon as possible.
Once you get the update installed, the icon will disappear.
You will have icon only for AVG Antivirus which will open your AVG Antivirus free dashboard.
Keep updating your AVG Antivirus to check whether it resolves the issue.
My AVG Antivirus is up to date.
I am not impressed by the programming skills of whoever designed your user interface. I hope the actual AV program is not as clunky.
