UI Failed to Load and "Having a Bad Day" Everyday!

I'm not sure why a screenshot would be necessary. The issue is pretty straightfoward. I'm talking about the AVG desktop icon. It didn't just appear when I did the repair, but has been placed on my desktop repeatedly, without warning and without my consent, after AVG did some updates. Of course I can keep deleting it, but I really shouldn't have to do that. A program shouldn't just override my choices about what I want to appear on my desktop. I chose to delete the original icon, but AVG keeps replacing it against my will. I see no setting to keep it from doing that, so will apparently keep having this tug of war with AVG over my desktop space. So I hope that AVG developers will make it possible to opt out of the desktop icon.

KUDOS TO KEN EDMONDS :-)

THANK YOU KEN!

I performed ALL of the steps AVG had suggested to no avail. I actually thought that a SERVICE or PROGRAM may have been the problem so I DISABLED a lot of SERVICES and removed a lot of PROGRAMS. Still not working. After seeing your resolution TODAY I set Terminal Services (which is one of the ones I disabled as a last resort to get AVG working) to start AUTOMATICALLY and though I had a problem STARTING it I eventually was able to (SEE BELOW) and BAMM AVG started working as designed!   SO TERMINAL SERVICE SERVICE IS THE KEY. Set it to automatic and start her up to resolve this ugly mess.

Under SERVICES in XP Administrative Tools RIGHT CLICK on Terminal Service and select PROPERTIES. Once in properties select the Startup Type - AUTOMATIC. THEN CLICK ON THE LOG ON tab and ensure that the HARDWARE PROFILE for your system is enabled. If not, enable it (touch nothing else here). NEXT go back to the GENERAL tab and START the service in the Service Status area. This should START and set Terminal Services to AUTOMATIC on system boot. Now that it is Started you can exit Administrative Tools and try AVG - I think you'll be happy

I recently had a major issue with uninstalling and reinstalling AVG Internet Security on my Windows 7 PC. AVG support staff were excellent and eventually the remote technician succeeded in installing Internet_Security_x64_1825. I managed to run one scan but when I tried to re-open AVG, I experienced the "UI Failed to load" error. I am not an IT expert but I am a person who makes things happen. If resetting Terminal Services to Automatic doesn't work for you, I've found another solution:
1. Edit the PATH environment variable on your PC by adding the path of avgui.exe If you haven’t done this before, please google it.
2. Uninstall AVG Internet Security using Control Panel or RevoUninstaller
3. Run AVG Clear, AVG Remover and AVG RemoverFix, with all the required restarts. If a restart doesn’t happen by itself, do it manually. I understand that AVG Remover isn't supposed to work on more recent versions of AVG Internet Security but it doesn't appear to do any harm.
4.  Restart your computer.
5. Install a slightly older version of AVG Internet Security (Internet_Security_x64_1820.exe worked for me) instead of the most recent versions such as Internet_Security_x64_1825.exe or Internet_Security_1824.exe
6.  Restart your computer again.
7. Cross your fingers! It worked for me and and I hope it works for you

AVG Free antivirus program has failed to load the user interface the last two days.

Yesterday when I started my computer a popup alerted me that the "UI failed to load", that I'm "protected" but the UI is "having a bad day". The cute verbiage didn't do much for my frustration, especially since there was nothing in the message to identify the source of the popup, and it took me a while to even figure out that AVG was the program that generated the alert. It had me worried that there was something wrong with my computer!

Apparently without the UI loaded AVG defaulted back to its own original settings, and now I get the annoying email footer telling people which antivirus program I use, which it had never done before. I tried to switch on the user interface today to reset my preferences, and got the same UI failure message, with no indication about how this might be fixed.

I've restarted my computer several times since this problem started. What's going on? Is this something that happened during one of the updates, like the unwanted icon that the program sometimes installs on my desktop without warning? How can I fix this?

Thank you.

Thank you, Pandi, that did the trick and the UI is now back.

During that process AVG kept its own default settings though, so I had to manually untick the outgoing email message, and can only hope that there isn't some other preference I'd set some time back that got eliminated too.

It seems that periodically when AVG does an update it does strange things like this. After doing the repair there again was an icon added to my desktop, which I really don't like. Is there a way to stop it from doing that?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hello Coal,

We are glad to know that the AVG User Interface is back. We appreciate all your efforts. Whenever the programs gets updated, this usually doesn't happen. As we have already repaired the program, this will not occur in future. You can can also change the update preferences by opening AVG program from the Zen window -> Settings -> Menu -> Update -> Dropdown arrow from the UI.

Please check the settings and feel free to contact us for further help.

Thank you.

Thank you, Pandi, I will do that.
