UI Failed To Load

  1. Edit the PATH environment variable on your PC by adding the path of avgui.exe If you haven’t done this before, please google it.
    2. Uninstall AVG Internet Security using Control Panel or RevoUninstaller
    3. Run AVG Clear, AVG Remover and AVG RemoverFix, with all the required restarts. If a restart doesn’t happen by itself, do it manually. I understand that AVG Remover isn't supposed to work on more recent versions of AVG Internet Security but it doesn't appear to do any harm.
    4.  Restart your computer.
    5. Install a slightly older version of AVG Internet Security (Internet_Security_x64_1820.exe worked for me) instead of the most recent versions such as Internet_Security_x64_1825.exe or Internet_Security_1824.exe
    6.  Restart your computer again.
    7. Cross your fingers! It worked for me.

KUDOS TO KEN EDMONDS :-)

THANK YOU KEN!

I performed ALL of the steps AVG had suggested to no avail. I actually thought that a SERVICE or PROGRAM may have been the problem so I DISABLED a lot of SERVICES and removed a lot of PROGRAMS. Still not working. After seeing your resolution TODAY I set Terminal Services (which is one of the ones I disabled as a last resort to get AVG working) to start AUTOMATICALLY and though I had a problem STARTING it I eventually was able to (SEE BELOW) and BAMM AVG started working as designed!   SO TERMINAL SERVICE SERVICE IS THE KEY. Set it to automatic and start her up to resolve this ugly mess.

Under SERVICES in XP Administrative Tools RIGHT CLICK on Terminal Service and select PROPERTIES. Once in properties select the Startup Type - AUTOMATIC. THEN CLICK ON THE LOG ON tab and ensure that the HARDWARE PROFILE for your system is enabled. If not, enable it (touch nothing else here). NEXT go back to the GENERAL tab and START the service in the Service Status area. This should START and set Terminal Services to AUTOMATIC on system boot. Now that it is Started you can exit Administrative Tools and try AVG - I think you'll be happy

Hello Ken,

I can understand your concern. You can try this steps, however, to report this issue to the developer team we needs logs from your computer. I have emailed you the steps to collect and send error logs to AVG from your computer.

Have reinstalled after cleaning as suggested several times but still getting that "UI Failed to load" screen " several times a day ( which also disconnects me from the net ) it restarts after several attemps pressing the "Restart Service" button
I've tried setting Terminal Services to automatic but STILL get the same problem…GRRRR!  any other fixes to suggest - anyone?

The answer on XP, and I suspect Windows 7, is very simple - thanks to a post on the Avast forum.
Windows Terminal Services needs to be enabled and automatic. Once I did that AVG worked perfectly - after hours with AVG Remover and AVG Clear so I could start again from scratch.

I wonder which programming genius decided to use Terminal Services which I haven't needed or used in the 5 or 6 years since I installed XP and still don't need or want, and it seems neither does anybody else.

Hello, Wayne.

I regret the inconvenience caused. I request you to follow the steps sent to your email address to send us diagnostic information from your computer. This information will allow us to analyze the situation and provide you with a solution.

Just to add - you can uninstall and reinstall until the end of time but it will never work until Terminal Services are enabled.

Why haven't AVG worked this out in the last 6 weeks or so?
Does anybody actually care?

I did a major clear out when I was trying to get AVG working and I clear my error logs regularly anyway - all gone.

It should be quite simple. There must have been a fundamental change when a programmer decided to call Terminal Services to display the UI. When should be obvious - the update before the complaints started.
That level of programming is far beyond me but the obvious thing seems to be revert to the previous routine that displayed the UI.
I will then be able to stop the totally unneccesary Terminal Services which are running just for AVG and I will never need for anything else.
Hello Chris,
Thanks for providing the requested details. We suggest you to uninstall and re-install AVG Anti-Virus free to fix this. Please run AVG Clear tool to remove AVG and its traces, please use the following instructions
1 Use the link https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe to run the AVG Clear tool.
2 Open the AVG Clear tool, click Yes in the User Account control dialog.
3 Click No in the Windows safe mode dialog.
After reboot, Open C drive and look for folder "AVG Remover" and delete it manually, also delete "AVG" folder in "Program files (x86)" in C Drive.
Click on the link to re-install AVG free : http://avgclick.me/InstallFree
Thank you.
4 Select the installed version of AVG, click Uninstall, then click Restart computer.
